1. What is a WHO simulation?

 

The Model World Health Organization Conference aims to introduce and educate students with the realistic roles of a WHO World Health Assembly meeting. Open to students of all majors, this free, one-day event mimics the political, social, cultural, and economic realities defining global health policies. Student delegates will debate, prepare legislation, and vote on resolutions that could potentially be forwarded to the WHO headquarters for consideration.

2. Who can participate?

​

Any undergraduate or graduate university student from the DMV area (DC, Maryland, & VA). We are also open to High School students 18 and above. 

The conference is recommended for students passionate about global health and policy, but it is open to all majors. There is no previous experience necessary to participate!

3. Is there a fee to attend?

​

The conference is free for all students who have registered for the event.

​

4. What is the theme?

​

The 2019 conference theme is Chronic Illnesses.

​

5. Where the simulation taking place?

​

The simulation is takes place at Innovation Hall on the Fairfax Campus at George Mason University.

Transportation & Parking:

 

1. How do I get to the conference?

​

Vienna Metro & Shuttle:

George Mason University is  located 15 minutes away from the Vienna Metro (Orange Line).  For GMU students, the mason shuttle is free. The Metro to Mason shuttle runs every half hour, starting at 8:00am on the weekends. If you plan to take the shuttle, be sure to bring your school ID.

Parking:

If you are driving to campus, you can park in any of our parking garages for a rate of $8.00 on the weekends.

The nearest garage to the venue is the Shenandoah Parking Garage.

Registration:

​

1. How do I register?

​

You can register online here! Registration and participation for the conference is free!

​

2. Who do I contact if I’m having issues with registration?

​

If you are having issues with registration, contact the MWHO secretariat by email at masonmwho@gmail.com. A member of the Secretariat will respond within 24 hours to provide assistance.

​

3. What is the cancellation policy?

​

Participants can choose to cancel their registration up until 5pm on April 1st by emailing masonmwho@gmail.com. If participants choose to cancel, they are no longer guaranteed a spot in the conference and may not re-register. Failure to attend without cancellation may result in the participant being restricted from future MasonWHO events.

Pre-Conference Preparations:

 

1. What should I bring to the conference?

​

Please bring your delegate guide, a notebook, pens, and/or laptop and tablet. Post-it notes and some writing paper is provided for all delegates.

​

2. What do I need to do to prepare for the conference?

​

Please read the background guide and conduct research, based on your committee and region. The guide is still in works! We will update you on that soon. 

​

3. What is a position paper? Am I required to write one?

​

A position paper is an essay detailing your country’s policies on the topics being discussed in your committee. Instructions pertaining to the position paper will be sent out at the same time as delegate assignments. A position paper is optional, but is required to be considered for the awards that will be announced during closing ceremonies. All position papers must be submitted by email to masonwho@gmail.com by 5pm on April 7th. They will not be accepted after this time.

During the Conference:

​

1. What is the conference dress code?

​

The dress code is business casual. Please refrain from wearing jeans and tennis shoes.

​

2. Will food be provided?

​

Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. Coffee and tea will be available throughout the day. If you have allergies or food preferences, please note them on your registration form.

​

3. What are the rules of procedure at the conference?

​

The rules of procedure can be found at the delegate resources site.

4. What is the schedule for the conference?

​
